One to One Songwriting Lessons

Tricia offices one-to-one personalised songwriting tuition tailored to your interests and needs. Sessions cover lyric writing, melody composition, and harmonic structure for beginners to advanced songwriters at any life stage. Together we focus on developing your unique style, adapting your style to genre, song evaluation, sharing your work, and, if desired, music business including routes to commercial songwriting. Tricia has an MA in songwriting and is completing a PhD in songwriting at Royal Holloway University London. She writes with international artists, for sync and for her own artist project Little Lore. Lessons are available online or in-person (West London only). Sessions cost £50/hr with discounts for block booking. Tricia offers completely bespoke one-to-one lessons or a ten week programme, pick the option that works best for you, or start with the programme then switch to bespoke. The ten week programme is adjusted to beginners / intermediate / advanced songwriters as required. The beginners programme covers the following: Week 1 - Songwriting foundations - melody, lyrics, harmony, rhythm and form Week 2 - Lyric craft - cadence, rhyme, figurative language, hooks, repetition, and editing tools Week 3 - Melody - developing motifs, what makes a memorable hook, singability Week 4 - Harmony - key, chord progression, chords and mood Week 5 - Song form and arrangement - the purpose of a verse, chorus, pre-chorus, bridge and how to use them Week 6 - Prosody - words and music, stress alignment, the economics of syllables, singability (again) Week 7 - Story telling - building emotional arcs, the art of the long metaphor Week 8 - Re-writing - Editing tools and the power of the re-write Week 9 - Sharing your songs - giving and receiving feedback, dealing with imposter syndrome and where to share Week 10 - Business basic - demos, splits, copyright, pitching and genre considerations
